Principles of method if other than guideline:
Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
Type of method:
differential scanning calorimetry
Remarks:
DTA/DSC
Decomposition:
yes
Decomp. temp.:
300 °C

The exothermal (decomposition) reaction shows an onset at approximately 300 °C (taken as decomposition temperature) and a peak at approximately 309 °C in the DSC curve. The decomposition energy is about 130 J/g (mean from 2 measurements).

No discernible endothermal reaction (melting) was seen in the DTA.

Conclusions:
Decomposition starts without discernible melting, the decomposition temperature is 300 °C.
Executive summary:

The DSC shows decomposition starting at 300 °C without discernible melting prior to decomposition.

Remarks on result:
preliminary test

In the screening test according to Grewer, an onset of an exothermic reaction was evident from 220 °C upwards. The maximum temperature of the sample was approximately 500 °C.

Therefore, the main test was carried out . An exothermic reaction was immediately observed upon reaching the storage temperature of 140 °C. The temperature of the sample reached approximately 155 °C. No further self-heating processes were recorded.

Conclusions:
the substance has not to be classified as self-heating substance according to Regulation (EC) no 1272/2008.

Test procedure:
other: burning index according to VDI 2263
Remarks on result:
other: BZ 3, localized combustion or glowing with practically no spreading

Any other information on results incl. tables

burning index BZ (Brennzahl) 3 was assigned: localized combustion or glowing with practically no spreading..

Due to the fact that no propagation of the combustion was observed the burning rate had not to be determined
