Description of key information

The self ignition temperature of formaldehyde is determined to be ca 395 °C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
395 °C

Additional information

According to a study from BASF (1996, Key) the self iginition was determined (according to DIN 51794) to be 395 °C. This result is supported by the following handbook data which report the following values: CRC (2010), Knovel (2012), RömppChemie (2015) report a self-ignition temperature of 424 °C. Gestis (2015), and Ullmanns (2012) report a self ignition temperature of 430 °C. The Merck Index (2013) reports a self-ignition temperature of 300 °C. Based on these data the self ignition temperature of formaldehyde is determined to be ca 395 °C
