Little is known of the avian toxicity of xanthates, but avian exposure to residues in tailings dams is not expected to elicit adverse effects as residues are low (in the order of 1 ppm) and no effect levels in rodents are two orders of magnitude higher.
The xanthates (sodium ethylCAS# 140-90-9), potassium ethylCAS# 140-89-6), sodium isopropyl(CAS# 140-93-2, potassium isopropyl(CAS# 140-92-1), sodium isobutyl(CAS # 25306-75-6) , potassium isobutyl(CAS # 13001-46-2), sodium n-butyl(CAS # 141-33-3) and sodium isoamyl(CAS # 2540-36-5) ) do not accumulate in the body.
