Description of key information

According to structural properties, hydrolysis of 2-aminoethanol is not expected. In addition, the substance is readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, section 9.2.2.1, the study does not need to be performed if the substance is readily biodegradable or highly insoluble. 2-Aminoethanol is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria (OECD 301A: > 90% DOC removal after 4 d, > 90% DOC removal after 21 d; BASF AG, 1995; see IUCLID Ch. 5.2.1); therefore, a study is not required. In addition, 2 -aminoethanol is assessed to be resistant to hydrolysis as it does not contain any labile functional groups according to Kollig et al. (1993), Boethling & Mackay (2000) and Harris (1990).
