Description of key information

The results of the OECD Guideline 201 (Alga, Growth Inhibition Test) study show low toxicity. The determined EC50/LC50 value of 877 mg/L does not result in classification for aquatic toxicity.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
877 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
877 mg/L

Additional information

One GLP OECD Guideline 201 Algae Growth Inhibition study is available. 1,3-Dioxolane was tested at the nominal concentrations of 62.5, 125, 250, 500 and 1000 mg/L and the overall arithmetic mean measured concentrations were 36.9, 81.0, 163, 280 and 877 mg/L. The growth inhibition was below 50% in all test concentrations. Hence, an EC50 could not be determined, as it was above the highest test concentration. No statistical differences in growth inhibition could be observed between the control and any of the test concentrations. Therefore, the NOEC was determined to be above the highest test concentration of 877 mg/L.
