In accordance with section 1 and 3 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted. Since no exposure of birds is expected, testing of birds is not required. The dataset on mammalian toxicity is extensive and complete. Thus, these data can be used for hazard assessment purposes to estimate secondary poisoning.

Additionally, a publication (Schafer, 1983) testing the short-term toxicity of 998 chemicals, one of which is acrylic acid, reported a LD50 value after 7 days observational period after single dose application to be >= 98 mg/kg bw based on food consumption data over a 18-h period.
