Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment
Administrative data
PBT assessment: overall result
- PBT status:
- further information relevant for the PBT assessment is necessary
- Justification:
The substance is a UVCB and comprises three main groups of constituents: (1) alkylation products of phenol with 2-phenylpropene resulting in 1-methyl-1-phenylethyl (cumyl)-mono- and di-substituted phenols, (2) dimers of oligomerisation products of 2-phenylpropene and (3) trimers of oligomerisation products of 2-phenylpropene. Due to the more polar and different chemical structure of the substituted phenols, environmental fate and behaviour of the three groups of constituents can be different.
(1) Alkylation products of phenol with 2-phenylpropene resulting in 1-methyl-1-phenylethyl (cumyl) substituted phenols are not bioaccumulative, and so are not considered PBT or vPvB.
(2) Dimers of oligomerisation products of 2-phenylpropene contain one of three constituents that can be considered vP, based on the OECD 309 study performed, but in total are not considered vB, hence are not vPvB. There is no data on T for the dimer tested for biodegradation, 1,1,3-trimethyl-3-phenylindane,and therefore a PBT conclusion cannot be reached.
(3) Trimers of oligomerisation products of 2-phenylpropene have no data on biodegradation, but can be considered vB. There is no data on T for the trimer fraction. A conclusion on the PBT status of the trimer fraction cannot be reached.
