Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX and X, no terrestrial toxicity studies need to be conducted as direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely.

Furthermore, chronic screening studies with earthworm (Eisenia andrei)and springtail (Folsomia candida) as well as definitive studies with three different plants (Alfalfa, barley and northern wheatgrass) demonstrates with IC50 ≥ 1471 mg/kg that diethylene glycol is of low hazard to terrestrial organisms. As no hazard has been found up to 1000 mg/kg and the substance is readily biodegradable no further testing on terrestrial organisms is required.
