Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Hydrolysis

In the preliminary test degradation was below 10 % after 5 days (= t0.5> 1 year). Therefore, the test substance is regarded as hydrolytically stable at pH 4, 7 and 9 and no additional testing is required.

Inherent Biodegradation

The inherent biodegradability of the test item was determined in the Modified MITI Test (II) with non adapted activated sludge for a period of 28 days. The study was conducted according to OECD Guideline 302 C. The mean oxygen depletion in the inoculum control came to 19.7 mg O2/L after 28 days. In order to check the activity of the test system sodium acetate was used as functional control. The functional control reached the pass level of > 65 % after 4 days. It came to a biodegradation rate of 69 % after 28 days. The 10 % level (beginning of biodegradation) was reached only by one test item replicate on day 28. The mean biodegradation came to 3 % after 28 days. No elimination/abiotic degradation of the test item occured in the blank. The validity criteria of the guideline are fulfilled. Under our test conditions, the test item was not inherently biodegradable within 28 days.

Bioaccumulation

A bioconcentration study according to OECD 305 was carried out. The bioconcentration factor for Pigment Yellow 191 is less than or equal to 4. Therefore, it can be concluded that the substance has a very low potential for bioaccumulation.

Adsorption/Desorption

The adsorption coefficient (KOC) on soil and on sewage sludge using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was estimated according to OECD 121 and GLP. Under test conditions the retention time of the test item was found to be 2.300 minutes at pH 6 and 2.653 at pH 3. At test conditions the retention times of the test item correspond with the void time of the chromatographic system. This means, that the log KOCof Pigment Yellow 191 was much lower than the log KOCof the reference substance with the lowest log KOC(2-nitrobenzamide: 0.75).

The estimated log KOCof the test item was therefore determined to be < 0.75 corresponding to a KOCof < 5.6. According to the McCall classification scheme of soil mobility potential a KOCof < 5.6 would mean a very high mobility for Pigment Yellow 191 in soil.
