Additional information

No irritation studies were found specifically for lead tetraacetate. However, lead tetracetate has been classified as corrosive (Skin Corr. 1B, H314) on the basis of the presence of acetic acid (Skin Corr. 1A, H314) as an impurity in the substance. In accordance with Column 2 of Sections 8.1 and 8.2 of REACH Annex VII, corrosivity and irritation studies do not have to be conducted for lead tetraacetate on the basis that the available information indicates that the criteria are met for classification as corrosive to the skin or irritating to eyes. Respiratory irritation will not occur as the substance produces very limited to no dust.

Justification for classification or non-classification

No irritation studies were found specifically for lead tetraacetate. However, the substance contains up to 3% of acetic acid as supplied and acetic acid is classified as corrosive. On the basis of a concentration greater than 1%, the substance is classified as corrosive, and no irritation studies are needed for lead tetraacetate. Respiratory irritation will not occur as the substance produces very limited to no dust.

In accordance with Column 2 of Sections 8.1 and 8.2 of REACH Annex VII, the irritation studies do not have to be conducted for lead tetraacetate on the basis that the substance is classified as corrosive.
