Description of key information

Styrene does not adsorb solar radiation appreciably at wavelengths greater than 300 nm, therefore degradation of styrene by direct photolysis is unlikely. However hydroxyl radicals and tropospheric ozone are major reactants that rapidly degrade styrene in the atmosphere. A half-life of about 8 hours is estimated. Styrene contains no hydrolysable groups.
