Description of key information
Due to the known inherent physico-chemical properties, the absence of acute toxic effects as well as the ubiquitous presence of silica/silicates in the environment, there is no indication for harmful long-term effects arising from exposure to synthetic amorphous silica (SAS). The need for further testing has been waived on the basis of REACH Regulation 1907/2006, Annex IX, 9.1 because the chemical safety assessment according to Annex I indicates no need to investigate the long-term effects on fish.
