Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

In the event of inhilation of dust or powder, supply fresh air and provide artificial respiration if not breathing. If breathing is difficult give oxygen.

After skin contact with dust or powder rinse affected area with water.

After eye contact with dust or powder rinse opened eye for several minutes under running water.

If symptoms of irritation persist or if feeling unwell seek medical advice.

Fire-fighting measures

Fires should be extinguished  using extinguishing powder. Do not use water.

Wear suitable personel protective equipment when extinguishing fires.

Irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion.

Accidental release measures

Spills should be contained and recovered mechanically if possible. A suitable waste container should be used to contain spillage.

When dealing with powders avoid generating dust and remove all sources of ignition.

Handling and storage

Prevent formation of dust and wear appropriate personal protective equipment to minimise exposure when handling powders.

Keep material dry if used in high temperature applications in contact with molten metal.

Store away from acids and oxidising agents.

When handling powders take precautions to prevent the build-up of static electricity by earthing equipment/containers.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Practice good hygiene. Keep away from food and drink. Avoid contact with eyes and skin.

Adequate protection measures, such as extraction systems should be in place to maintain levels below the recommended WEL for chromium.

It may be necessary to undertake a programme of exposure monitoring.

Relevant personal protective equipment should be worn when handling powders.

Stability and reactivity

Stable under normal temperatures.

Reacts with oxidising agents and acids with generation of flammable gas.

Fine powder or dust may ignite if exposed to a naked flame or other ignition source.

Disposal considerations

Disposal of solid waste containing chromium should be undertaken by a licensed contractor in accordance with appropriate national and local

regulations.

There are no identified uses which generate liquid waste.
