Description of key information

In tests conducted according to UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids), Paraffin and hydrocarbon wax samples were found to be not flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The samples melted to clear or yellow liquid, (sparks or intermittent flame in contact with ignition source were observed for some samples) but no ignition or propagation was observed in any sample.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The Paraffin and hydrocarbon wax samples did not propagate burning over 200mm.

Based on the combustion propagation of less than 200 mm in 4 minutes, classification of Paraffin and hydrocarbon wax as flammable is not warranted in accordance with the EU CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008).
