Endpoint:
flammable liquids: obsolete as covered by section 'Flash point'
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid

Description of key information

Flammability: flammable/highly flammable liquid

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
flammable

Additional information

The measured flash point of TOPP indicates that it is flammable/highly flammable. However, the substance is not expected to be pyrophoric nor release flammable gases in contact with water or air. A lower explosion limit of approximately 0.8% (volume) and an upper explosion limit of approximately 6% (volume) at 101.3 kPa was reported for the substance in a peer-reviewed source (Elvers B, Hawkins S (1996)).

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance is classified as a Flammable Liquid Category 2 (H225: Highly flammable liquid and vapour) OR Flammable Liquid Category 3 (H226: Flammable liquid and vapour), according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008. This is on the basis of a flash point of 5°C, 24°C and 37°C or lower and a boiling point >35°C.
