Description of key information

Calcium carbonate - sugar factory lime (SFL) is not highly flammable as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The flammability of Sugar Factory Lime (SFL) was determined in a GLP study performed in accordance with EU Method A10 (Atwal and Tremain, 2010). SFL failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test which demonstrates that SFL is not flammable.

The flammability of SFL is supported by data on calcium carbonate from a GLP guideline study (Tremain et al, 2010) which indicates that calcium carbonate is not classified as a readily combustible solid.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Sugar factory lime (SFL) is not highly flammable as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.
