EC number: 265-084-5 | CAS number: 64741-82-8 A complex combination of hydrocarbons from the distillation of the products from a thermal cracking process. It consists predominantly of unsaturated hydrocarbons having carbon numbers predominantly in the range of C10 through C22 and boiling in the range of approximately 160°C to 370°C (320°F to 698°F).
Key study data are available for each relevant physico-chemical endpoint for cracked gas oils. All substances in the category are liquids (CONCAWE, 2010a) at ambient temperature (20°C) and pressure (101.3 kPa). There is no guideline method available for this endpoint and data presented are based on visual observation, supported by data on pour point and viscosity. The pour point for chemicals in this category ranges from -20°C (CONCAWE, 2010a). The boiling point for cracked gas oils ranges from 150 to 411°C (CONCAWE, 2010a) and the density ranges from 0.816 to 0.993 g/cm3at 15°C (CONCAWE, 2010a). The vapour pressure is ~0.4 kPa at 40°C (CONCAWE, 1996a).
Flash points for cracked gas oils are generally >56°C and the self ignition temperature is typically≥225°C (CONCAWE, 2010a). Therefore some of the cracked gas oils would be classified as flammable liquid category 3 (H226: Flammable liquid and vapour) under EU CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008). Cracked gas oils are not considered to be explosive, and do not meet EU classification criteria for oxidising properties. The kinematic viscosity of substances in this category is 1.1 – 4.5 mm2/s at 40°C (CONCAWE, 2010a). All substances in this category meet the criteria for classification as aspiration hazard according to EU CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008).
Based on information available on the properties of the substances that comprise the cracked gas oils category of chemicals, specific data are not presented for the following endpoints: partition co-efficient, water solubility, granulometry, surface tension, flammability, explosiveness, oxidising properties, stability in organic solvents, and dissociation constant. Appropriate waiving statements are provided to indicate why data for these REACH endpoints are not applicable. The physico-chemical data presented are considered representative for the substances included in the category cracked gas oils.
