Description of key information

Considering the group of phosphates, ammonium dihydrogenorthophosphate (MAP), diammonium hydrogenorthophosphate (DAP), single superphosphate (SSP) and triple superphosphate (TSP) it is clear that all phosphates show a low or negligible toxicity to aquatic species: lowest fish LC50 >85.9 mg/L (100 mg/L based on nominal conc.) (MAP), and 1700 mg/L for DAP; lowest invertebrate EC50 =1790 mg/L (SSP); lowest algae NOEC≥87.6 mg/L (100 mg/L based on nominal conc.) (TSP) and lowest respiration inhibition EC50>100 mg/L (SSP and DAP). Considering calcium sulfate with regard to SSP and TSP shows much higher toxicity values. Therefore, the aquatic toxicity of the phosphates was based on the here mentioned studies.
