Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media:

Use fire fighting measures that suit the environment.

CO2, powder or water jet. Fight larger fires with water spray or alcohol resistant foam.

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons:

Water with a full water jet

Specific hazards during fire fighting:

may forms corrosive vapour of alkaline solutions

Normal measures for preventive fire protection.

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters:

Wear alkaline resistant protective suit.

Additional information:

Collect contaminated fire fighting water separately. It must not enter the sewage system.

Prevent any seepage into the ground.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions:

Avoid causing dust.

Use personal protective equipment. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Provide adequate ventilation. Wear breathing apparatus if exposed to vapours/dusts/aerosols.

Environmental precautions:

Isolate area using sand or earthen dykes. Do not allow to enter drains/surface water/ground-water.

Do not allow  to penetrate the ground/soil.

Methods for cleaning up:

Collect mechanically.

Soak up with inert absorbent material (sand, diatomite, acid binders, universal binders, sawdust). Sweep up to prevent slipping hazard. Residue: Flush with plenty of water. Collect the discharged liquid if possible in plastic container. Dispose of waste according to applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Handling and storage

Handling:

Thorough dedusting.

Keep containers tightly sealed. Use only in area provided with appropriate exhaust ventilation. Wear breathing protection equipment when decanting larger quantities without extractor facilities.

Information about pretection against explosions and fires:

No special measures required.

Storage:

Provide alkali-resistant floor. Do not use light alloy containers. Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place.

In case of spray contact at least protection index 2 recommended, according to more than 30 min. penetration time (EN 374).

Layer thickness of gloves at least: 0.4 mm.

In case of prolonged and intensive contact protection index 6 recommended, according to more than 480 min. penetration time (EN 374):

Layer thickness of gloves at least: 0.7 mm.

Glove material: butyl-rubber, BR; Nitrile rubber, NBR; Natural rubber, NR; Neoprene gloves.

Penetration time of glove material:

The exact break through time has to be found out by the manufacturer of the protective gloves and has to be observed.
