Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Substance is a gas of low solubility and is expected to quickly disappear from the aquatic phase. Therefore, any impact on the aquatic environment is expected to be low. According to 9.1.1 Column 2 of REACH Annex VII the study need not be conducted if there are mitigating factors indicating that aquatic toxicity it unlikely to occur.

Additional information

Substance is a gas of low solubility and is expected to quickly disappear from the aquatic phase. Therefore, any impact on the aquatic environment is expected to be low. According to 9.1.1 Column 2 of REACH Annex VII the study need not be conducted if there are mitigating factors indicating that aquatic toxicity it unlikely to occur. However, the immobility effect concentration (EC50) of TFE to Daphnia was estimated by ECOSAR v1.00 as 190 mg/l. This EC50 value is considerably greater than the solubility of TFE in water of 110 mg/l, obtained in equilibrium with a gas phase containing 1 atmosphere of TFE. Hence, in practice, toxic concentrations of TFE to Daphnia in the aquatic environment cannot be achieved.
