Description of key information

21-day NOEC (reproduction) values of 160 mg/L and > 960 mg/L have been reported for acetonitrile in Daphnia magna.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10, LC10 or NOEC for freshwater invertebrates:
160 mg/L

Additional information

In a guideline (OECD 202) and GLP study, MCSI of Japan (1996) reported the 21 -day NOEC (reproduction) for acetonitrile in Daphna magna to be >960 mg/L (measured) under semi-static exposure conditions. Tong et al (1996) also studied the chronic toxicity of acetonitrile in Daphnia magna. These investigators reported a 21 -day, static renewal NOEC of 160 mg/L for acetonitrile in Daphnia magna, based on reproductive performance measures.
