Phototransformation in air

Estimated half-lives for the components of this UVCB substance range from 2.3 to 10.3 hours.

 

Hydrolysis

Ether bonds are stable and do not hydrolyse to a significant extent at environmental relevant condition. This has been confirmed in an OECD 111 study with Propylidinetrimethanol, ethoxylated (CAS# 50586-59-9). This substance was stable at pH 4, 7, 9 at 50 degrees Celsius during 120 hours (Bayer Material Science, AG, 2009).

 

Biodegradation

After 28 days 38% and 40% degradation at 10 and 20 mg/l, respectively, in a CO2 evolution test. no further biodegradation after prolongation to 40 days. Not readily biodegradable.

After 28 days 99% degradation in a Zahn-Wellens test. Inherently biodegradable. 

Bioaccumulation

With a log Kow ≤3, the substance can be considered to have a low potential for bioaccumulation.

 

Adsorption/desorption

In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex IX, the study does not need to be conducted as the substance can be expected to have a low potential for sorption (log Kow ≤3). The estimated Koc value for homologous components of this UVCB substance was 10 L/kg for the full range of homologues (low -high molecular weight). The components of this UVCB substance can be regarded as having low affinity for adsorption to soils and activated sludge biosolids.
