Description of key information

No toxic effect on fish is expected since niobium is insoluble in water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII and VIII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, short-term studies for the aquatic ecotoxicity do not need to be conducted if there are mitigating factors indicating that aquatic toxicity is unlikely to occur, for instance if the substance is highly insoluble in water. However, a study on the long-term toxicity according to OECD guideline 210 is ongoing for niobium metal to fulfill the demands that are described in the ECHA decision (Communication number CCH-D-2114517391-56-01/F). This information will be submitted later based on ECHA communication/decision number TPE/CCH/SEV-CCH-D-2114517391-56-01/F. Reasons for this delay are summarized in the attached status report (Status of Aquatic Toxicity Tests (OECD 201, 210 and 211) with Niobium metal powder).
