Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No toxicity studies to birds were available for ethylbenzene. However, due to physical and chemical properties, direct or indirect exposure to the soil compartments is unlikely. Ethylbenzene is readily biodegradable and has a BCF of 110.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Ethylbenzene is readily biodegradable and has a BCF <229. The results from a fugacity model (McKay Level I) based on key physical and chemical properties concluded that direct or indirect exposure to the soil compartment is unlikely. In addition, long term toxicity testing to birds is not necessary for ethylbenzene since a large mammalian data set is available which examines the long term effects of ethylbenzene. This long-term mammalian data can be used in place of bird toxicity studies to develop a PNECoral for secondary poisoning.
