Description of key information

In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the flammability (contact with water and pyrophoric properties of solids and liquids) studies (required in section 7.10) do not need to be conducted as experience in use and handling has shown that the substance does not possess these properties.

In accordance with section 2 of REACH Annex XI, the flammability (solids and gases) studies (required in section 7.10) do not need to be conducted as the substance is a liquid.

Flammability:
highly flammable

Additional information

Information regarding flammability of IPA was sourced from CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (81st Ed), known to contain peer-reviewed data of Klimisch-2 reliability. The CRC handbook states that the flammable (explosive) range in air of IPA, expressed as percent by volume, was 2 -13 %. Based on the criteria of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, the substance is a flammable liquid, Category 2, with a flash point < 23 °C and an initial boiling point > 35 °C.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the CPL classifications, the substance is a liquid classified as “highly flammable” because it has a flash point < 21 °C and an initial boiling point > 35 °C.
