Justifications and discussions

Category definition:
This category covers the following substances: Sodium Acetate Anhydrous, Potassium Acetate Anhydrous, Calcium di(acetate) Anhydrous, Magnesium di(acetate) Anhydrous, Ammonium Acetate Anhydrous, Zinc di(acetate) Anhydrous
Category rationale:
The salts of acetic acid are formed by acetate ion and different cations (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, ammonium and zinc).
In the Acetates category (Acetic acid salts), the chemicals are are expected to be toxicologically equivalent because of their close structural relationships, physical-chemical properties and their role in metabolism. Using OEDC QSAR Application Toolbox it is showed that all members of the category have common (eco)toxicological behavior and the category hasconsistent trends.
United States Environmental Protection Agency recognizes as a subcategory Acetic acid salts.
