Description of key information

The values of 206.2 and 81.7 mg Na2S2O4/L (72h-EC50 and 72h-EC10  respectively) were put forward for the environmental classification and effects assessment of sodium dithionite.

Additional information

One reliable study was identified for the evaluation of sodium dithionite toxicity towards aquatic algae. BASF (1989) investigated the effects in sodium dithionite on the growth rate of the green alga Scenedesmus subspicatus. A 96h-study was conducted, and the derived effects levels after a 72h-exposure period were considered for assessment purposes. The EC50 and EC10 values were 206.2 and 81.7 mg Na2S2O4/L, wich corresponds to 189.5 and 75.0 mg SO32-/L, respectively (or 76.0 and 30.1 mg S/L, respectively).
