Description of key information

Hydrolysis is not possible as sodium dithionite dissociates rapidly into dithionite anions and sodium cations. Dithionite anions are unstable and rapidly disproportionate to (bi-)sulfites (HSO3-/ SO3-) and thiosulfates (S2O32-) which are ultimately transformed e.g. by oxidation, reduction, speciation, precipitation in environmental solutions.
