Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reliable short-term toxicity data are available for the registration substance, 3-trimethoxysilylpropyl methacrylate (CAS 2530-85-0, EC 219-785-8) to freshwater fish (Danio rerio, reported as: Brachydanio rerio), invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus, reported as: Scenedesmus subspicatus). The relevant short-term values are:

Fish: LC50 (96 h): >83 mg/l, expressed in terms of the concentration of the silanol hydrolysis product, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propyl methacrylate;

Daphnia: EC50 (48 h): >83 mg/l, expressed in terms of the concentration of the silanol hydrolysis product, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propyl methacrylate;

Algae: EC50 (72 h): >83 mg/l and >445 mg/l; NOEC: =83 mg/l and ErC10 418 mg/l, expressed in terms of the concentration of the silanol hydrolysis product, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propyl methacrylate.

An activated sludge respiration inhibition 3-hour EC50 value of >830 mg/l and NOEC value of =830 mg/l (nominal) were determined in a reliable study, expressed in terms of the concentration of the silanol hydrolysis product, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propyl methacrylate.

The rapid hydrolysis of 3-trimethoxysilylpropyl methacrylate (half-life of 1.87 h at pH 7 and 20°C) means it is likely that the test organisms in each test were exposed primarily to the hydrolysis products of the substance, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propyl methacrylate and methanol.
