Description of key information

Lanthanum oxide was not toxic to fish up to its water solubility limit. A loading rate of 100 mg/L did not cause any mortality.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Lanthanum oxide and cerium dioxide were both of low toxicity to fresh water fish. In guideline studies according to OECD 203 and GLP with a water accomodated fraction and loading rates of 100 mg/L no mortality and no signs of toxicity were observed with both closely related substances.
