Abiotic and biotic degradation

If exposure to the air occurs, tris(2,4 -di-tert-butylphenyl)phosphite is expected to be rapidly degraded by photochemical processes. The substance is considered to be hydrolytically stable and not readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria. Evidence is given that the substance is oxidated to tris(2,4 -di-tert-butylphenyl)phosphate in the environment [Fischer 1999]. However, it is concluded that the substance is potentially persistent.



The substance does not significantly accumulate in organisms and it is concluded that the substance is not bioaccumulative.

Transport and distribution

Based upon a calculated log Koc adsorption of the substance to solid soil phase and adsorption to suspended particles is expected. The water solubility is very low (< 0.005mg/L). From the water surface, the substance is not likely to evaporate into the atmosphere. Thus, if released to the environment al compartments the substance will mainly distribute to soil and sediment.
