The bioaccumulation potential of 12-hydroxystearic acid was estimated by using BCFBAF v3.00 model of EPIWINand found to be equivalent to 56 L/kg (wet weight). 12-hydroxystearic acid presents low solubility in water and is rapidly degraded. When ingested, the fatty acids are well known to undergo beta-oxidation and are used as a source of energy. As such, the substance is not likely to bioaccumulate in aquatic or terrestrial organisms, even after repeated exposure.
