EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
98 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria was assessed with studies using melamine and cyanuric acid as test material.

For the component melamine (CAS 108-78-1)

Drozdowski 1988 was selected as the key study as it is the more recent one. It was performed under GLP and it is reported in more detail, revealing an EC50 of 325 mg/L and a NOEC of 98 mg/L.

The study of Oldersma 1982 reportes a high EC50 320 mg/L and a NOEC 940 mg/L, even higher than in Drozdowski 1988.

For the component cyanuric acid (CAS 108-80-5:

Very high EC50 and NOEC values are reported for the growth rate (Vreynhoef 2007): > 3700 mg/L (nominal) and 945 mg/L (nominal).
