First-aid measures

General information

In case of persisting adverse effects, consult a physician. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes immediately, and launder thoroughly before reusing.

On danger of unconsciousness place victim stable in side position for

transportation. On complaints and symptoms take care of medical treatment.

After inhalation

Remove affected person from the immediate area, lay victim down calmly. Ensure supply of fresh air. Take care of medical treatment.

After skin contact

In case of contact with skin wash off immediately with copious amounts of water.

After eye contact

Separate eyelids, wash the affected eye thoroughly with water (15 min), protect unaffected eye, previous remove contact lenses. Take care for ophthalmological treatment.

After ingestion

Do not induce vomiting. Rinse out mouth, let spit out liquid and give plenty of water to drink. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Call in a physician immediately and show him the Safety Data Sheet.

Medical advices:

Decontamination, symptomatic treatment. No specific antidot known.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media

Extinguishing measures to suit surroundings. Carbon dioxide, extinguishing powder.

Extinguishing media that must not be used for safety reasons

Water, to be avoided by reason of sulfuric acid formation.

Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, combustion products, resulting gases

In the event of fire, the following can be released: toxic and corrosive fumes of sulfur oxides (sulfur dioxide and sulfur trioxide).

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters

Use self-contained breathing apparatus/pressure air respirator at low aeration and in closed rooms. Wear protective clothing.

Other information

Product itself does not burn. Adapt extinguisher and fire-fighting measures to fire in the environment.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions

Refer to protective measures. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing, wear suitable protective equipment. Ensure adequate ventilation. Avoid dust formation.

Environmental precautions

Do not discharge into the drains/surface waters/groundwater.

Methods for cleaning up/taking up

Pick up mechanically. When picked up, treat material as prescribed under heading "Disposal considerations". Clean contaminated surfaces thoroughly with water.

Handling and storage

Handling

Advice on safe handling

Avoid breathe in dust, contacts with eyes, skin and clothes, long-term or repeated exposition.

Provide good ventilation of working area (local exhaust ventilation, if necessary). If workplace exposure limits are exceeded, respiratory protection approved for this particular job must be worn.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion

Avoid formation of dust. Keep away from sources of heat and ignition. Good ventilation of working rooms, chemical-resistant floors and washing facilities at the workplace, emergency showers on activities with larger amounts.

Rules on handling

On workplaces only keep available amounts necessary for work progress. Do not leave receptacles stand open, use closed facilities with exhaust as densely as possible for decanting and bottling. Do not transport with pressure air, avoid dust formation, preferable handle with non-breakable receptacles or use suitable protection containers on transportation of breakable receptacles.

Storage

Requirements for storage rooms and vessels/recaptacles

Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Always keep in containers of same material as the original one. Store dry.

Packing materials

Packing materials are to be proofed on resistance before use.

Requirements to be met by storerooms and recaptacles

Storage in gateways, passages, stairways, hallways open to public, roofs, attics and workrooms is not admissible. Do not use foods receptacles because of danger of confusion. Clearly and durably label receptacles. Preferable store in original receptacles, keep densely closed.

Advice on storage assembly/cumulative storage

Nothing but substances of similar properties should be cumulatively stored. Cumulative storage with substances as follows is prohibited:

- medicinal products, food and feedings stuffs including additives;

- infective, radioactive and explosive substances;

- compressed, liquefied and pressurized dissolved gases;

- auto-igniting substances;

- substances releasing flammable gases on contact with water;

- organic peroxides/oxidizing agents;

- metals, fluorine, alkalines, acids;

- inflammable solid substances;

- non-flammable toxic and very toxic substances;

- flammable substances, e. g. paper, carton, wood, plastic foils

Further information on storage conditions

Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place.

Additional information
Special provisions / remarks / other:
The above mentioned transport classification is based on the results of a positive corrosion test on aluminum and steel in accordance with the regulations of ADR/GGVS, IMDG/GGVSee and IATA.
The transport classification depends on the treatment and the resulting pH-value of the product.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure limit values

Biological exposition limit values: not applicable

DNEL- and PNEC values:

DNEL values: not applicable

PNEC aqua freshwater: > 0.1 mg/l

PNEC soil: > 1 mg/kg soil dw

Personal protective equipment

Body protection:

Commonly special body protection not necessary, regular work clothing sufficient.

Respiratory protection

If workplace exposure limits are exceeded, a respiration protection approved for this particular job must be worn. In case of dust formation, take appropriate measures for breathing protection in the event workplace threshold values are not specified. Use half mask to EN 140 or full mask to EN 136 fitted with filter to EN 143-P1. Remind wearing time limits. On concentrations above limitations of filter devices or on oxygen contents above 17 % or on ambiguous conditions use self-contained respiratory protective devices.

Hand protection

Sufficient protection is given wearing suitable protective gloves checked according to i.e. EN 374, in the event of risk of skin contact with the product. Before use, the protective glove should be tested in any case for its specific work-station suitability (i.e. mechanical resistance, product compatibility and antistatic properties). Adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions and information relating to the use, storage, care and replacement of protective gloves. Protective gloves shall be replaced immediately when physically damaged or worn. Design operations thus to avoid permanent use of protective gloves.

Eye protection

Safety glasses with side protection shield (EN 166)

Skin protection

Clothing as usual in the chemical industry. Skin protection products are not as effective as protection gloves, so suitable protection gloves should be preferred if possible. If protection gloves cannot be worn apply water insoluble skin protection

substances to clean skin before start of work and after each break and thoroughly embrocate. Before breaks and at the end of work skin cleaning with water and soap necessary. After cleansing fatty skin care products should be applied.

General protective and hygiene measures

Do not eat, drink or smoke during work time. Keep away from foodstuffs and beverages. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately. Wash hands before breaks and after work. Do not inhale dust.

Stability and reactivity

Conditions to be avoided

Moisture, water.

Materials to avoid

Oxidizing agents; metals; fluorine; alkalines; acids

Hazardous decomposition products

Sulphurous oxides (SOx, i.e. sulfur dioxide and sulfur trioxide) on rapid heating.

Dangerous chemical reactions

None known.

Disposal considerations

Product

Allocation of a waste code number, according to the European Waste Catalogue, should be carried out in agreement with the regional waste disposal company.

Packaging

Residuals must be removed from packaging and when emptied completely disposed of in accordance with the regulations for waste removal. Incompletely emptied packaging must be disposed of in the form of disposal specified by the regional disposer.
