First-aid measures

General information:

Bring injured persons to the fresh air, lie comfortably and loosen tight clothing. Do not let injured persons cool-out. In the case of vomiting or danger of unconsciousness, lie and transport in stabilised side position. Call a doctor to the site of the accident.

After inhalation:

Provide fresh air. Call a doctor to the site of the accident immediately.

After skin contact:

Take-off drenched clothing, shoes and stocking immediately, thereby observing self-protection (e.g. gloves). Rinse affected parts of the body for a long time with plenty of water. If large areas of the skin are wetted, immediately call a doctor to the site of the accident, otherwise immediately visit a doctor in any case.

After eye contact:

Rinse the eyes with opened eyelids with water for at least 15 minutes. Thereafter immediately consult an eye specialist.

After swallowing:

Rinse the mouth with water and drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting. Call a doctor to the site of the accident immediately.

Information for the doctor:

Symptoms and dangers: Vapours irritate the respiratory tract and the lungs. Lung oedema are possible. Caution, a weak-symptoms or symptom-free interval is possible. The liquid can be absorbed through the skin. Irritation of or caustic burns on the skin and mucous membranes.

Treatment: Thoroughly clean the wetted skin areas with water. After eye contact, rinse with plenty of water, in case of caustic burns send to an eye specialist or eye clinic, if possible with continuous rinsing. In case of inhalation, to prevent lung oedema, initiate inhalative cortisone therapy as soon as possible (e.g. every 10 minutes 5 strokes of a cortisone-containing dosing aerosol such as Auxiloson, Thomae). Administer codeine against irritation coughing. In case of commencing or manifested pulmonal oedema administer systemic cortisone (e.g. Solu Decortin 1000 or Fortecortin 100). If swallowed, purge the stomach after intubation, administer activated charcoal, saline laxatives.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Water spray jet, dry powder extinguisher, alcohol-resistant foam, carbon dioxide (CO2). Water is preferable on account of its cooling effect.

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons: Direct water jet (danger of spreading).

Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, combustion products, resulting gases: Dangerous decomposition product see section 10: stability and reactivity.

Special protective equipment for fire fighters: Wear self-contained respiratory protective device. Wear fully protective suit. During clearance wear protective clothing and rubber boots.

Additional information: In case of fire, cool endangered containers with water jets. If possible, drag them away out of the hazard zone. Dispose of fire debris and contaminated fire fighting water in accordance with official regulations. Collect contaminated fire fighting water separately. It must not enter the sewage system.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Move uninvolved persons towards the weather side (windward). Do not inhale the vapours. Wear protective clothing when carrying out repair work. Wear respirator equipment if necessary.

Environmental precautions: Prevent discharge into the sewage system/water resources/soil (toxic for aquatic organisms). In case of seepage into the ground, water course or sewage system inform responsible authorities.

Methods for cleaning up/collecting: Cover residues with non-combustible absorbent (absorbents, sand, dry soil, ground chalk) and send for disposal in suitable receptacles. Dispose contaminated material as waste according to section Disposal considerations.

Additional information: None.

Handling and storage

Handling

Information for safe handling: Ensure good ventilation at the working site to remove dust. Maximum filling height 90 %. Do not return removed quantities into the container. Observe strict cleanliness in the room. Destroy residues.

Information about protection against fire and explosion: Keep sources of ignition away. When transferring between vessels, use grounded apparatus and equipment which does not produce sparks. Protect against heat. Emergency cooling must be available in case of nearby fire.

Storage

Requirements to be met by storerooms and receptacles: Shelves must be made only of aluminium. Vessels must be made of V2A steel, glass or ceramics. Attacks rubber. Do not use any auxiliary devices made of plastics. Store in a well-ventilated place. Store cool; recommended storage temperature below 25 °C. Protect the container against direct solar radiation. Keep the containers tightly closed.

Information about storage in one common storage facility: Do not store together with highly flammable and combustible substances. Follow regulations for flammable liquids.

Other information on storage conditions: None.

Storage class: No.: 5.2 L (organic peroxides).

Exposure controls / personal protection

Long term DNEL inhalation = 6 mg/m3 (1 ppm). This value is considered as covering acute inhalation exposure.

Personal protective equipment to get strictly controlled conditions of intermediate use:

Breathing equipment: Use respirator filter unit with gas filter DIN EN 141 Type A (colour code brown): Up to 0.1 vol.% class 1; up to 0.5 vol.% class 2; up to 1 vol.% class 3; above 1% and if conditions are unclear, environmentally independent respirator device.

Otherwise, keep air concentration below the DNEL by means of RMM required in the attachment "1011 CHP-GES-HH.pdf" for uses in Strictly Controlled Conditions, or "CHP GES 100 1000.xls" for other uses, depending on use scenario.

Hand protection to get strictly controlled conditions of intermediate use, or any other use at >= 3 % concentration:

Wear resistant protective gloves (tested according to DIN EN 374). Avoid direct contact with the chemical/ the product/ the preparation by organizational measures. The glove material has to be impermeable and resistant to the product/ the substance/ the preparation. Check protective gloves prior to each use for their proper condition. After use of gloves apply skin-cleaning agents and skin cosmetics. Selection of the glove material on consideration of the penetration times, rates of diffusion and the degradation

Material of gloves: Fluorocarbon rubber, PVC

The selection of suitable depends upon the material, and also upon the quality of the gloves. The degree of protection will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. As the product is a preparation of several substances, the resistance of the glove material can not be calculated in advance and has therefore to be checked prior to the application.

Penetration time of glove material:

480 min. (Fluorocarbonrubber)

60 min. (PVC)

The exact break-through time has to be found out by the manufacturer of the protective gloves and has to be observed.

For other uses at < 3 % refer to attachment "1011 CHP-GES-HH.pdf" or "CHP GES 100 1000.xls".

Eye protection: Basket goggles (DIN EN 58211, number 3), face protection shield.

Protective clothing: Robust closed shoes, PVC jacket, PVC trousers with bib, Apron.

General protective and hygiene measures: Do not inhale the vapours. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Take off dirty drenched clothes. Keep away from food and drink. Precautionary skin protection: Protective cream based on polyvinyl alcohol. Before breaks and at the end of work, wash the hands with soap and water, then apply lanolin cream.

Stability and reactivity

Conditions to avoid: Temperatures greater then 80 °C (decomposition of cumene hydroperoxide).

Materials to avoid: Explosion hazard on contact with rust, ashes, dirt, accelerators such as heavy metal salts and tertiary amines; vigorous reaction on contact with concentrated mineral acids and alkaline solutions as well as reducing agents!

Hazardous decomposition products: Phenol, acetone.

Other information: None.

Disposal considerations

Disposal in a suitable incineration plant observing the local statutory regulations (s. EWC, European Waste Material Catalogue), if re-processing is not possible (after adequate dilution and in small portions).

Uncleaned empty packing drums must be treated like the substances for which they were used.
