Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Using the (Q)SAR KOWWIN 1.67, the log Kow of the substance was calculated to be 3.44.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
3.44
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The partition coefficients of DIMETHYLOCTANAMIDE and DIMETHYLDECANAMIDE in octanolwater were determined at 23°C and 24°C, respectively by the shaking method according to OECDGuidelines No. 107 (corresponding to EEC Guidelines A8) to be 390 (log Pow =2.59) and 8 300 (log Pow =3.92), respectively (Stephan, 1993, J. Krohn). This study is considered as not reliable and disregarded at least for the registered substance (Dimethyldecanamide), as e.g. the REACH Guidance Document R7 (Table 7.1 -23) states that the applied method is not suitable for surface active compounds like the registered substance (see Chapter 4.10 Surface tension).

Therefore, the log Kow was calculated using the (Q)SAR Kowwin 1.67, which uses an atom/fragment contribution method.

As the substance consists of standard atom/fragments, it can be assumed to fall within the applicability domain of Kowwin 1.67.

Consequently, the resulting log Kow of 3.44 is considered reliable with restrictions (US EPA 2010) and is used for further hazard/risk considerations.

Note that, as no information on temperature is provided in the Kowwin output, a temperature of 20°C was assumed.
