Executive summary:

Activated sludge from a domestic wastewater treatment plant (treating municipal sewage) was used as inoculum at a temperature range of 20 - 25 °C to test the toxicity of monomethylamine to microorganisms. The experiment was performed by BASF AG in 1990, according to ISO 8192. Monomethylamine was tested in the concentrations of 158.4 mg/L, 264.4 mg/L, 500 mg/L, and 1000 mg/L. The result is an EC20 value of 240 mg/L during a total exposure time of 30 minutes.

Additional information

Activated sludge from a domestic wastewater treatment plant (treating municipal sewage) was used as inoculum at a temperature range of 20 - 25 °C to test the toxicity of monomethylamine to microorganisms. The experiment was performed by BASF AG in 1990, according to ISO 8192. Monomethylamine was tested in the concentrations of 158.4 mg/L, 264.4 mg/L, 500 mg/L, and 1000 mg/L. The result is an EC20 value of 240 mg/L during a total exposure time of 30 minutes.

The same experimental conditions to test the inhibition of the oxygen consumption by activated sludge were conducted by BASF AG in 1990. The only difference was the initial test concentrations of monomethylamine: 125, 250, 500, and 1007 mg/L. In this case, an EC20 value greater than the highest tested concentration (1007 mg/L) is given as result.
