Results and discussion

Effect concentrations
Duration:

Dose descriptor:
NOEC
Effect conc.:
2 500 mg/kg soil dw
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
nitrate formation rate
Details on results:
The mean nitrate formation rates were 6.1 mg No3/kg dry soil/d in untreated controls, 5.8 mg/kg/d in soils treated with DBDPEthane adn 0.3 mg/kg/d in soils treated with the positive control substances. Soils treated with 2500 mg/kg DBDPEthane showed 5.9% inhibtion compared with untreated controls. Soils treated with 500 mg/kg positive control substance showed 95.0% inhibition in the rate of nitrate formation compared to controls.
Results with reference substance (positive control):
The mean nitrate formation rates were 6.1 mg No3/kg dry soil/d in untreated controls, 5.8 mg/kg/d in soils treated with DBDPEthane adn 0.3 mg/kg/d in soils treated with the positive control substances. Soils treated with 2500 mg/kg DBDPEthane showed 5.9% inhibtion compared with untreated controls. Soils treated with 500 mg/kg positive control substance showed 95.0% inhibition in the rate of nitrate formation compared to controls.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
DBDPEthane did not have any long-term adverse effects on soil nitrogen transformation.
Executive summary:

Soil treated with DBDPEthane at a nominal concentration of 2500 mg/kg exhibited approximately 6% inhibition in the rate of nitrate formation after 28 days, compared with untreated control soil; therefore, the test substance did not have any long-term adverse effects on nitrogen transformation.
