Description of key information

4,4-sulphonyldiphenol is considered as not ready biodegradable according to OECD 301 C .

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In a MITI test according to OECD 301C, the biodegradation of 4,4 -sulphonyldiphenol was investigated. Under these test conditions no biodegradation was observed.

Although 4,4'-sulphonydiphenol is assessed as not readily biodegradable, there is evidence that the substance can be degraded by microbial populations after acclimatisation. This is confirmed by studies dimostrating high removal of 4,4'-sulphonydiphenol from wastewater treatment plants.
