Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
flammable liquids: obsolete as covered by section 'Flash point'
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Description of key information

Since the test substance is a liquid, the flammability is preferably described by the flash point. Furthermore, testing for pyrophoric properties and flammability on contact with water is not necessary due to the absence of structural alerts and the existing experience with handling and use of the test substance (R.7a, ECHA, 2008).

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the experience during handling and use of hydrazine:

- the liberation of highly flammable gases through contact with water or himid air can be excluded and

- pyrophoric properties can be excluded.

Based on the available information, hydrazine has to be classified as:

- flammable, R10 (Directive 67/548/EEC)

- flammable liquid and vapour, flam. liquid cat. 3 (Regulation EC 1208/2008)

Based on the experience during handling and use of hydrazine hydrate:

- the liberation of highly flammable gases through contact with water or himid air can be excluded and

- pyrophoric properties can be excluded.

Based on the available information, hydrazine has to be classified as:

- flammable, R10 (Directive 67/548/EEC)

- flammable liquid and vapour, flam. liquid cat. 3 (Regulation EC 1208/2008)
