Interpretation of results:
readily biodegradable
Conclusions:
The test substance was determined to be readily biodegradable with a BOD percent biodegradation of 81% after 28 days.
Executive summary:

In a valid guideline study (MITI-I, OECD TG 301 C), the average overall biodegradation of the substance 2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate was 81 % (ultimate biodegradation as determined by biochemical oxygen demand) and 100 % (primary degradation as determined by specific analysis (GC)). (Remark: The 10-day window concept does not apply to the MITI-Test)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable
Type of water:
freshwater

Additional information

Additional information is available from a static activated sludge test OECD 301 E. The biodegradation was measured by DOC-elimination. The biodegradation was 94.2% after 28 days. A biodegradation of about 80 % was achieved within the 10 day-window. In this test hydroxypropyl methacrylate was readily biodegradable.
