Description of key information

Waived: The substance is readily biodegradable. Hydrolysis is not expected to be a relevant environmental fate process

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with Column 2 of REACh Annex VIII, the testing of hydrolysis is not required as the substance is readily biodegradable. A preliminary hydrolysis test (OECD 111) for the structurally-analogous substance 2 -phenoxy-1 -ethanol showed the substance to be stable at pH 4, 7, and 9 and 50 °C over five days. Therefore, the hydrolysis half-life of diphenyl ether can be assumed to be > 1 yr. at 25 °C. Hydrolysis is not expected to be an important processes affecting the fate of this readily biodegradable substance in the environment.
