Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Biodegradation of DTO as a whole substance in sediments
In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex IX, the biodegradation in water and sediment study (required in Sections 9.2.1.2 and 9.2.1.4) does not need to be conducted as the substance is readily biodegradable. Identification of degradation products (required in Section 9.2.3) is also not necessary.
Biodegradation of DTO constituents in sediments

No measured sediment biodegradation data are available for constituents of DTO. An exposure assessment (Section 9) using EUSES 2.1.1 has been performed. The modelhas a very cautious approach to the estimation of biodegradation rate in the environment which is based on the TGD requirements. However, the rates are wholly unrealistic of what can reasonably be expected for naturally-occurring substances of high intrinsic degradability, and so a sediment half-life of 30 days has been set for all constituent blocks of DTO. The significance of that decision is considered in Section 9 of the CSR.
