Endpoint:
hydrolysis
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is readily biodegradable
Conclusions:
Crude Tall Oil is a readilly Biodegradable substance, therefore hydrolysis testing is not conducted for the substance according to colum 2 adaptation.

Description of key information

Hydrolytic stability is important for understanding the persistence or stability of a chemical substance in water. The hydrolysis study (required in Section 9.2.2.1) does not need to be conducted as the substance is readily biodegradable. In addition,on the basis of chemical structure, none of the constituents of DTO contain functional groups that are susceptible to hydrolysis under conditions relevant to the environment.

The substance can therefore be considered as stable under hydrolytic condition.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Hydrolysis of DTO as a whole substance

There are no measured data that are available for the hydrolysis of DTO.In addition, low water solubility often limits the ability to determine hydrolysis in water as a function of pH.

Hydrolysis of DTO constituents

On the basis of structural examination, none of the constituents of DTO contain functional groups that are susceptible to hydrolysis under conditions relevant to the environment. This fate process will not contribute to a measurable degradative loss of these substances from the environment

Therefore for the purpose of this assessment, DTO can be considered as stable under hydrolytic conditions.
