Additional information

The low value for the octanol-water partition coefficient (log Kow value of 1.97) indicates that no significant accumulation of chloroform in organisms has to be expected. The accumulation in the green algae Selenestrum capricornutum has been determined after incubation for six days, resulting in a bioconcentration factor of 690 (Mailhot 1987). Much lower bioconcentration factors have been determined for freshwater fish: in flow-through systems exposing carp (Cyprinus carpio) to 0.1 mg/L, the highest bioconcentration factor determined after 42 days of continuous exposure was 13 (Anderson and Lustry 1980, MITI 1992). This value will be considered in the risk assessment.
