Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

According to REACH, a study is not required. Available data indicate that the temperature of auto-flammability is >650°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to REACH annex VII, column 2, the study on the self-ignition temperature does not need to be conducted for liquids non flammable in air. As chloroform has no flash point, it is non flammable in air. Thus a study on the auto-flammability is not required. However a test on the auto flammability of chloroform is described in the handbook by Steen et al. (2000). The auto flammability of chloroform was measured according to DIN 51794. The temperature of auto flammability was > 650 °C in the glass flask, =613 °C in the brass flask, =627 °C in the copper flask, and =650 °C in the steel flask.
