Description of key information

A reliable measured value of solid density (d = 1.17 g/cm3) is available only for a temperature of 24.7 °C. A reliable measured value for liquid density (d = 0.97 g/cm3) is available at 100 °C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Relative density at 20C:
1.17

Additional information

The critically-reviewed and accepted value of solid density is reported by Daubert and Danner in the AIChE DIPPR database as 1.17 g/cm3 at 24.7 The density reported in Verschueren (2001) is consistent with this value, whereas other values available from two different handbooks indicated a (suspect) lower density value of 1.04 g/cm3 for lower temperature of 20 °C. The density of liquid biphenyl is also reported, as this is relevant for the physical state of the substance during processing/use.
