Dimethyl carbonate ( CAS No. 210-478-4) is a colourless organic solvent with a melting point of  4.65 ±0.05 ºC (at 101 325 Pa)

and a boiling point of 90.35 ºC (at 101 325 Pa). It is very water soluble (114.7 +/-3.9 g/L at 20 ºC). Dimetyl carbonate has a low log P (0.354 at 20 ºC) and a relatively high vapour pressure ( 7570.4 Pa at 298.3 K).

Density of the dimethyl carbonate was determined to be 1.0633 g/cm3 (at 25 ºC) and viscosity was determined to be 0.585 mPa.s (at 20 ºC).

Dimethyl carbonate is classified as highly flammable - on the basis of it's flash-point (16.7 ºC closed-cup). It is neither pyrophoric nor it is flammable in contact with water.

Dimethyl carbonate is considered to be non-oxidising and non-explosive.
