Description of key information

Carbon tetrachloride is not flammable on contact with water and is not pyrophoric. The key parameter for its flammability is the flash point.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Carbon tetrachloride is a liquid at room temperature thus its primary value for ease of ignition is the flash point (see section 4.11). In addition, based on experience in handling, carbon tetrachloride is not pyrophoric and is not flammable on contact with water.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on experience in handling, the substance is not pyrophoric and is not flammable on contact with water thus it is not classified for these properties. In addition carbon tetrachloride has no flash point (see section 4.11). Thus carbon tetrachloride is not flammable.
