In accordance with REACH Regulation 1907/2006, Annex X, Column 2, studies of the effects on soil organisms need be conducted if exposure assessment indicates a concern for exposure to that environmental compartment. The physico-chemical properties of the substance, together with fugacity modelling, indicate that it may be expected to be distributed into soil should environmental release occur. There is the potential for adsorption to soil and it cannot be assumed that, in tests on soil organisms, exposure through pore water will not differ significantly from that in water. As a result, hazards resulting from uptake of soil cannot be excluded. However, distribution in the environment is highly dependent on degradation processes, particularly ready biodegradation.

Experimental data are available on a structural analogue to the substance, 1,2,4 -Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters, which does not produce toxicity in plants at high concentrations in soil.
